Fisherman’s Bastion

Due to the unique panorama of Budapest from the Neo-Romanesque lookout terraces, the Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most significant tourist attractions in Budapest. The main façade of the building parallel to the Danube River is about 140 meters long. Its peaked stone towers symbolize the seven Hungarian conquering leaders. Its name can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when this part of the castle wall was protected by a guild of fishermen. It has been a part of Budapest’s World Heritage Sites since 1987, as part of the Buda Castle District.

Tip: the Fisherman’s Bastion can be visited free of charge all day in autumn and winter, but in spring and summer we have to exchange tickets at certain times of the day.

The Fisherman’s Bastion is 2.8 km away from our hostel on foot and 5.5 km by car. It can be reached by public transport in 22 minutes by bus number 5 (to Alagút utca stop).
